5 Why Method

I use this method to find the real reason behind a want, problem, or reason.

When searching for a bug in our code, we repeatedly ask why this part of the system does not work.

You will find something else that doesn't work in the first iteration.

So we ask again why this piece doesn't work.

When you ask this question five times, you most likely end up at the real reason why your code doesn't work.

And you can be sure you didn't only fix a symptom of some larger problem.

The same applies to our wants.

Usually, every single want we have throughout the day is only a symptom of a larger unmet need.

So stay curious and ask more questions.

Don't be satisfied with shallow reasoning.
